Driving in Madrid was nuts, even worse than New York. Thanks to Summerlin, we have gotten used to the roundabouts in Spain, but nothing could have prepared us for Madrid. It took us two hours just to find our hotel, in the middle of the Puerta del Sol. It would have been easier, but the street it was on was not open to cars. Once we got situated though, Madrid was a lot of fun. We went and saw the royal palace, which overlooked a great view of Madrid. We also visited the Plaza Mayor, which holds a lot of history. Many of the executions of the Jews during the Inquisition occured right where we stood. While we were there, we stopped in a bar that was like a museum to bull fighting. One of the days we were there was a national holiday, El Dia de Colon, or Columbus Day. The Spaniards use this holiday to flaunt all their military equipment, including their new fighter jets and tanks. We visited the Prado also, the famous art museum with art by El Greco, Goya, and Velasquez. And of course, no trip to Spain would be complete without a traditional bullfight. This one was definitely not like what Bugs Bunny fought growing up.
