We flew into Barcelona, and drove two hours to Peñiscola. With a nine hour time difference, it was 10 A.M. our time, but we spent all night flying, so we spent our first day in an extended siesta. The view from our balcony was beautiful, we could see Peñiscolas castle in the foreground, and the Mediterranean Sea as the background. The picture really doesn't do it justice. We used Peñiscola as a home base, and took the time to get acquainted to European life, but that doesn't mean these Jews didn't wander. There was a bird sanctuary in the castle where Josiah held a hawk and fed it chicken, a Universal Studios park close by, and a harbor where the boats would come to sell their daily catch. We never bought anything, but when an eel dropped off a cart of fish, Jared took the chance to get acquainted. The one and only thing that was remotely familiar to us was McDonalds, which was Josiah's choice for his birthday dinner.
